Hi – thanks for all the hard work
everyone. Lots of you have put in the hours this summer and it is
paying off.
The food is great. I have had two
pre-match meals now; good local roast pork and today against Wellington
RFC roast beef. Love it. The club looks great. The pitches are in good
condition and the fencing and advertising is making the club look good.
There is a good vibe and the feedback has been very positive. The
website seems to be working - it is full of useful information and
fixtures and reports and interesting news items.
On the pitch the situation is coming
together. The Colts are steaming and the play is hard and committed –
pretty much in the mould of Chris and Lee Greatrex – the coaches. The
senior squad is still growing and training well together. Johnny Wakem
is doing a fantastic job – the seconds will do well this season and get
back up a league where they should be, and then onward and upward! The
first team are beginning to gel on the pitch. The game against
Wellington RFC had lots of positives – we will have to dig in and make
the bigger hits but that will come. Lee Webber’s work with the backs is
looking good there have been some great running lines. Steve Rush is
building on the positives and we are winning a lot of ball and looking
good in attack.
The junior section is buzzing. There has
been masses of commitment from all the coaches – we have hundreds of
people at the club on Sunday mornings – they all get fed by Dukes and
Spex is a star behind the bar after a lot of hard work on the pitch by
all the kids. All the age groups have full fixture lists and the girls
now have fixtures – all this can be checked on this website.
We have club to be proud of.
The sponsorship and advertising is still
coning in and local business has been very supportive. Thanks to you
all.
The club committee continues to meet each
month and sub committees are puling together to move things forward. We
have great new club kits and a cool ‘Tavistock RFC Clothing’ range (I
know) - have a look at the ‘Merchandise’ pages.
There are still unresolved issues with the
front pitch - the finance sub-committee is looking into the options. I
will keep you posted as and when I can. I am developing and way forward
with the junior and senor sections of the club - we are looking at
development paths for junior players and the senior club teams can
progress as far as they wish – I will support them all the way. We will
be looking to create a tour committee and also be aiming to ‘share’
expertise throughout the club – ‘borrowing’ coaches and players from
senior teams and using them across the age groups – lots to do - all
good. I have the energy. And the desire. I love the game.
We are still looking for more Vice
Presidents, business that want advertising hoardings – great for local
business – and people to get involved.
If anyone has anything positive to offer
this a good place to be.
See you soon, come for a great lunch and a
good day out,
Nigel Larcombe-Williams
Chairman
