U14's Managers statement

Sponsored by the Royal Marine Commandos, the U14s are becoming a really formidable force with physical development and tactical awareness beginning to complement existing ball-handling skills; this junior rugby squad has enthusiasm for the game in abundance. This, in no little part, due to a continuity in totally dedicated, inspirational coaching. The 2007/8 season, saw departing coach Andy Salmon pass the baton to former deputy, Erik Sprangle. With the arrival of some new players – some completely new to the game – strengthening an already strong and well-balanced squad, this capable group has continued to improve. End of season victory in the Devon 7s Plate final at Brixham was fitting accolade to a superb rugby season which saw our squad secure twice as many victories as defeats, reach the ‘last eight’ of the Devon Cup and make a substantial contribution of players to the West Devon Development Squad. It was just reward for a season which demonstrated commitment, determination and exemplary standards of sportsmanship.

The U14s are a bright, sociable group of young rugby players with the talents, ambition and application to succeed. It is the goal of those of us involved in their management and coaching in 2008/9 to ensure that the aspirations of those on the field are supported to the hilt off the field; we want all our U14 players - whether they are already established members of the squad, new to the game, or just new to TRFC – to enjoy every minute of their rugby with us and receive the necessary support, encouragement and training to develop and reach their full potential. We all look forward to meeting you and making you feel welcome at the Club.

U14's Fixture & Results

U13's Managers statement

When not playing (see fixtures), the U13's meet for training each Sunday at 10am. We play a "15 player" game encouraging all players to work together in attack and defence. Our coaching approach is player centred and while results are important, so is the manner in which we play the game. We encourage the participation and development of all players. The Team Ethos is to "play as fast as we can, play fair & play hard from the start to the final whistle of both matches & at training and to encourage our team-mates in their efforts to do likewise". Last season we succeeded in reaching the semi-final of the Devon RFU Festival. Lead Coach Matt Wood has been playing and then coaching at Tavistock Rugby Club for 20 years plus the occasional games for London Saracens U21's & London Cornish when he ventured out of the county. He is an RFU qualified Coach. Graham Dobie is fitness and conditioning coach & John Kaye is backs coach. John Kaye, in addition to being RFU qualified, brings a wealth of experience to the coaching setup where after playing at Tavistock College, he played on the wing for Torquay, Wasps & Northampton. The team and coaches welcome new players to the join the squad.
