Exeter Saracens 48 : Tavistock 8
Despite enjoying good periods of possession and pressure, Tavistock 2nds finished up on the end of a hefty defeat against a well organised and efficient Exeter Saracens side. Tavistock attacked right from the kick-off and were awarded a penalty after two minutes. Full-back Martin Credicott duly kicked the points. Tavistock made a hash of the restart and conceded a line out in their 22. Saracens scoring a try from a catch and drive move from the lineout. The next 20 minutes were played entirely in the Saracens half of the pitch but Tavistock could not find a way through a determined home defence, until flanker Paul Williams managed to force his way over for a try after a good run from right winger Charlie Harvey. Again the restart kick was not secured and Saracens stormed straight back down the pitch and scored a soft converted try. Tavistock continued to enjoy most of the possession without really looking likely to score, then 3 minutes from half time, the home side made a rare excursion into the Tavistock half and from another lineout, again scored a catch and drive try. To make matters worse, they repeated the exercise with the last play of the half and suddenly, having led 8 - 5 after 24 minutes, Tavistock found themselves trailing 22 - 8 at halftime. Saracens took control of the game for much of the second half and added four further tries at regular intervals, three of which were converted. Tavistock came to life in the final few minutes but were not able to add to their score. Few positives emerged from the match for Tavistock, but Rob Milligan had a good game playing out of position at scrumhalf and left winger Ben Neale put in an immense amount of work, both in defence and the limited attacking opportunities that came his way. Tavistock will be looking for an improved showing next Saturday, when they travel to Bideford for another testing Merit league match.
