Tavistock  41 : Saltash 17

With the pitch in surprisingly good condition, Tavistock 2nds entertained their counterparts from Saltash.

The home team failed to secure the kick off and some quick hands from the Saltash threequarters saw them score an unconverted try within ther first minute of the game. This sparked Tavistock into life and after the forwards made some good drives, from an attack in the visitors 22, flanker, Jude Rotton forced his way over for the equalising score after 5 minutes. The next twenty minutes were fairly even, but gradually, the Tavistock forwards were gaining the upper hand, particularly in the rucks and mauls and following a strong rolling maul, Jude Rotton emerged from underneath the pile of bodies to claim his and Tavistock's second try. Hooker Will Tomkins up in support of an attack by the backs finished off a fine move for Tavistock's next try and just before halftime, winger Dominic Clifton was on hand to take a scoring pass, after fullback Ian Gray had made a good break through the Saltash defence. Martin Credicott converted this last try to give Tavistock a lead of 22 - 5 at halftime. Tavistock made several changes after halftime but their pack still continued to keep control of the forward exchanges and the home side scored two more tries in the first 25 minutes of the second half through wing forward Simon Parisio and lock Darren Cole, one of which was converted by Credicott. Tavistock then went to sleep for ten minutes and Saltash took advantage and scored two tries themselves, the second of which was converted. Tavistock came back into life and with the last attack of the match, they scored again through Darren Cole, with replacement flyhalf Seb Roberts adding the conversion, to bring the final score to 41 - 17.

For Tavistock, locks Darren Cole and Darren Sutton both had fine games, with a number of strong runs and winning the majority of the lineouts. The experienced Jon Bellamy, recently signed from Plymstock Albion Oaks, gave a good performance at scrumhalf. Next week, Tavistock 2nds are home to Teignmouth in a Merit League game.
