Okehampton 49 : Tavistock 0
With only six of last week's team available, Tavistock travelled to play this friendly at Okehampton with a number of 3rd team and Colts players making up the numbers. The home side took the initiative from the start and despite some resolute defending from Tavistock, the hosts ran in four tries in the first half, all scored by their pacy backs. Okehampton started the second half by scoring three further tries in the opening ten minutes and threatened to run riot. To their credit, the visitors regrouped and competed more equally for the rest of the match, without ever really threatening the home side's line. Two further tries late on, completed the scoring and the impressive home team ran out comfortable winners.
Both sides should take credit for striving to play an open game in what were pretty attrocious conditions. The game being well controlled by referee Ian Freestone.
For Tavistock, Colts Dale Thompson and Matt Guerrera both gave good accounts of themselves. The front row of Ed Kivell; Dave Welsh and Simon Wallace scrummaged well against a much heavier pack. Veteran number eight Paul Edwards gave a typical 100% performance and scrum half Charlie Cook had an efficient debut in the 2nds. Tavistock are due to play Ivybridge in a Merit League game next Saturday at Sandy Park, kick off 2.30 pm
