Tavistock 42 : Exeter 27
Tavistock welcomed a strong Exeter side to Sandy park, knowing very
well they are the only team to have beaten them this season. Without
four regular faces in the Tavistock back line, they knew it was going
to be a tough ask. Despite this however Tavistock recorded an excellent
victory in what the coaches, players and spectators believed to be the
best game of rugby displayed by the U15s this season.
The game started superbly, with the Exeter kick being collected by
Neave who made big dents running with force and power. It wasn’t long
before captain Huntley broke free for the first try of her brace and
injury prone scrum half Cowie scoring her first try for the club. The
first half was very even with the score at half time being 17-17 but
Tavistock playing against all elements and a very fast Exeter back
line. Credit must be given to wingers Stacey and Bull who closed down
their opposite numbers with great success.
The second half saw first blood going to Tavistock through a tremendous
break by prop Brown who broke five tackles on her 60m burst for the
line. Tavistock opened a gap between the sides only to be caught off
guard on turnover ball to see the deficient down to only 3 points, but
persistence and some great work in the front row by Midson-Holmes and
Hill saw the ball spread wide to stand in flanker Dawe who broke down
the wing for Huntley to score her second.
Tavistock finished the game without the ball, but showed some excellent
defence to hold off the fighting Exeter side. Player of the match could
have gone to a number of players but Neave came out on top for her
confident running and sound defence at fullback.
