Okehampton 0 : Tavistock 59
Tavistock U11’s triumphed against Okehampton on Sunday, their 4th win
from 4 this season. In the first ¼, the Okehampton forwards appeared to
have the upper hand in the scrum and turned over much ball, despite
this they were unable to gain ground such was the defensive tackling by
forwards Callum, Rory and Will G. Will P opened the scoring for the
visitors, outpacing the Oke’ defence to run in the first of 5 tries for
the 1st half. A second converted try for Will P widened the lead for
Tavi.
Tavi’s backs displayed periods of flowing rugby, moving the ball wide
along the line to Fred, Lily and Will T to gain valuable ground. In the
2/4, a maul on the 5m line saw the Tavi pack drive forward to send Rory
over the line. Followed shortly after by tries from George and Jack,
both the result of excellent passing from the backs.
Fresh legs brought on in the second half, necessitated a reshuffle in
the Tavi backs, with George moving to outside centre to make way for
Alex in at scrum half. Okehampton continued to push forward but were
constantly thwarted by some great tackling from Laurence, Callum,
George, Alex and Matt and denied the chance to score. Despite the 1st
half lead Tavi continued to push to win territory. Valuable lineout
ball was won by Cameron, Chris and Stephen. This in turn released the
backs to send Will P over the line for 3 more tries. Tavistock
maintained a high level of determination throughout, and with only a
minute to go Rory surged forward to score his 2nd try from the 5m
scrum.
