Match Report as follows:
Tavistock started brightly from the outset. Early domination by the
Tavy pack and effective link up play within the backs gave the
travelling support grounds for optimism. Billy Boulton opened the
scoring with an excellent element of determined play, powering over to
secure the first try. Tiverton responded well, and scored a penalty to
close the gap, following a series of Tavy infringements. Tavy were
however the dominant side for the remainder of the half but failed to
convert their dominance into points. Tiverton, however, seized on some
loose Tavy play and ran in a try to take an 8-5 half time lead. Tavy
once again started the second half well but unforced errors led to a
further Tiverton try. From being the dominant side, Tavy suddenly
started to wobble and rue the missed opportunities of the first half,
but to their credit, and led by their tenacious captain, Ali Dawe, Tavy
opened up the Tiverton defence to permit Monty Burdfield to run in a
try which was successfully converted by Ed Longden. Tavy then started
to demonstrate genuine belief in their ability and ran in a further try
through Monty Burdfield, converted by Ed Longden, Tavy really had their
tails up and looked a much better unit with the forwards beginning to
dominate the scrum, with Harry Birt and Ash Toll leading the physical
challenge. Tiverton soon conceded a penalty as a direct result of the
Tavy pressure, and Ed Longden confidently scored from the resulting
kick. Tavy desperate for the win then secured a final try during the
final phase of play with Ed Longden charging down the ball in the loose
and confidently scoring the try to allow Tavistock to secure a well
deserved 13-27 Victory.
Man of the match for his commitment in both the tackle and providing genuine options on the wing was
Rob Hocking.
