Tavistock 5 : Liskeard 34

Tavistock's second match of the season was against a well disciplined Liskeard side. Without 3 key players, this match was always going to test the strength of the whole squad, and an early Liskeard try could have led to a rout. However, Tavistock dug deep with an impressive forwards display, who comfortably held their own against a much larger pack. Tavy conceded 3 tries in the first half, two to simple positional lapses, which were the result of early season rustiness. Having conceded the tries, Tavy started to get into their stride and began retaining possession better, which was rewarded with a penalty, successfully scored by Ed Longden. A further penalty kick by the 'new Warrior' Jez Cramoysan, gave Tavistock hope of achieving a result, going into half time 6-17. Despite massive effort all round, Tavistock had no answer for Liskeard's slick movement in the backs and were unable to prevent a further 3 second half tries, without reply. Both Liskeard's Centres caused problems all afternoon for a depleted Tavistock side, who will undoubtedly benefit from the return of both centres for their forthcoming fixtures. Notable performances today were Rob Hocking on the wing who put in some outstanding defensive work, last week's man of the match Rory Oxborough once again put in a very gutsy performance in the flanks but man of the match for Tavistock this week was Rob Hill, who fulfilled the No 8 position within distinction and was a genuine threat all match.
