Tavistock 12 : Okehampton 31
Hi
Warriors,
Clearly we have permitted Okey to take the first derby match, but I am
convinced that we can win the return fixture having taken the lessons
out of today's match. Match report below.
Training this week will be confirmed by Wednesday, as the floodlights
are still out of action following damage by the contractors who are
laying the new first team pitch.
Thanks very much to today;s 'Traffic Wardens': Sue Dawe, Ian Longden and Ian Coker.
Match Report
Playing their 3rd match in the Landscape League, Tavy started this
derby encounter in style with a fine try in the first minute by Monty
Burdfield following an excellent run by Richie Coker. Okehampton,
whilst stunned, quickly found their stride with a powerful
demonstration of forward play and were soon level following Tavy’s
inability to cope with the visitors more powerful pack. Tavy continued
to work hard but missed tackles and hesitancy in the loose allowed
Okehampton to take the lead before half time with a well worked try.
The second half started with another early try by Monty Burdfield who
made a scintillating 50yard run to come within 2 points of the
visitors. Despite Tavy’s best efforts, Okey’s pack were however
beginning to dominant the match and quickly scored 3 further tries and
2 conversions to win the match
12 – 31.
Despite the defeat, there were some notable performances from Tavy. Sam
Jessop, Danny Gibson, Ash Toll and Billy Boulton all gave their all in
the front row but
Ryan Bragg was justifiably named as man of the match following an awesome display of tackling.
Onwards & Upwards with Barnstaple next week's visitors.
